Our Mission

Elizabeth’s Bookshop & Writing Centre is an independent bookstore and literary space dedicated to amplifying marginalized voices through books, writing, and community programming. Founded by author, activist, and educator Rachel Cargle, Elizabeth’s exists to celebrate storytelling as a tool for empowerment, education, and social change.

Proudly Black-owned and woman-led, Elizabeth’s is more than a bookstore—it’s a gathering place for readers, writers, and activists. Our shelves feature a thoughtfully curated selection of books centering BIPOC, LGBTQ+, and other historically underrepresented voices. In addition to books, we offer a selection of gifts and literary-themed items that align with our mission of supporting independent, socially conscious creators.

Elizabeth’s also serves as a hub for literary engagement through writing workshops, book clubs, and community events designed to uplift, educate, and inspire. From author talks to free writing workshops and reading groups, we are committed to making literature an accessible and transformative force in our community.
